Moving on now to the Mech units within the game. The idea is that each weight class of Mech (Light, Medium, Heavy, Assault) can each counter another. A light is best against an assault, a medium is best against a light, a heavy is best against a medium, and an assault is best against a heavy. Then within these classes are 3 subclasses of mechs, which essentially go from fast and weak to slow and strong with a middle ground of the two extremes. This should create a balance in the game where players need to counter the forces of their enemies strategically.
Mech Units:
Players can build Light to Medium Mechs once they have constructed the Mech Factory. Only after they have constructed a Robotics Lab, Weapons Facility, Mech Hub and a Mech Engineering Facility can they then begin to build Assault Mechs. The Assault Mechs are considerably larger, so they need a much bigger factory to construct them, which the Mech Factory simply cannot provide.
Light:
Spider (Light):
The Spider was originally to be used by SLDF commando forces. The Mech gets its name from the unique pattern on its chest that radiates from the Medium Laser mounts in its centre torso. The Spider is one of the most manoeuvrable Mechs ever conceived. Spiders are generally used as fast strike forces to hit an enemy's rear with lightning speed.
Commando (Medium):
First built in 2463, the Commando is lighter and faster than its precursors, though they still used primitive BattleMech technology. Commandos were able to destroy much heavier Mech’s of their class. It is equipped with very effective short range missiles, but has only four tons of the armour which prevents it from being effective in a stand-up fight with heavier enemies.
Raven (Heavy):
The Raven is a light electronic warfare Mech. Ravens were designed as stand-off support units for Mech companies, designating targets for artillery and scrambling enemy sensors using a ECM that blankets friendly units with electronic jamming.
Medium:
Cicada (Light):
The Cicada was created to provide a fast reconnaissance Mech that also had a fairly powerful payload. Able to outmanoeuvre Mechs of its class as well as some of the lighter Mechs, the Cicada can be used to great effect on the battlefield.
Hunchback (Medium):
The Hunchback is a respected and feared Mech, built for close range brawling. This Mech has the heavy armour and weaponry to stand up against any foe in the dense cover of a city environment. It’s small downfall is the Hunchback's lack of long-range weapons, making it an easy target in open areas.
Centurion (Heavy):
The Centurion is equipped with a heavy and varied arsenal that allows it to strike at enemy units at a variety of ranges. A mix of long range homing missiles, direct line of sight weapons and lasers make the Centurion a very powerful medium class Mech.
Heavy:
Dragon (Light):
The Dragon is a heavy Mech designed to be a close assault Mech. Its versatile design allows it to be used in both offensive and defensive operations. It boasts above-average firepower and plenty of ammunition for extended combat as well as having a considerable amount of armour.
Cataphract (Medium):
The Cataphract is a powerful heavy Mech that can stand almost stand toe-to-toe with an assault Mech. Being a versatile Mech, the Cataphract, like the Dragon, can be used in multiple operations. Powerful weapons combined with heavy armour makes the Cataphract a potent mix.
Catapult (Heavy):
The Catapult is an offense oriented, second-line fire-support Mech. With a considerable amount of armour and multiple Long Range Missiles (LRM’s), the Catapult can rain down fire on top of enemy Mechs from a distance. Fast on its feet and equipped with Jump-Jets, the Catapult is at the top of it’s class.
Assault:
Awesome (Light):
Manufacturing of the Awesome began in 2665, creating one of the most feared Mechs of all time. The Awesome is built around its impressive all energy based arsenal and heavy armour, making it a highly independent and powerful assault Mech.
Atlas (Medium):
The Atlas is one of the most legendary Mechs ever created. Known and feared by all, the Mech has nineteen tons of armour, crippling firepower and a foreboding skull shaped “Death’s Head” cockpit. The mere sight of an Atlas on the battlefield has been known to make even a veteran Mechwarrior break out in a cold sweat.
Stalker (Heavy):
The Stalker, much like the Awesome, was built around its weapon systems. Built by mounting weapons with overlapping ranges of fire, allowing it to increase the amount of damage inflicted as it gets closer, the Stalker is the most powerful Mech on the battlefield. It has a slow speed, mainly down to its mass array of weapons and heavy armour.
