#046 GAD BA6: Change of project.

With my Learning Agreement approved, I began work and very quickly realized I had greatly overestimated my project. Within the course of a week I had nearly completed my model as well as UV mapping it and began to grow concerned. After having a brief talk with one of my tutors I decided to scrap my original idea and move on to something a bit more challenging. Below are the results of the initial project:

So, I went back to the drawing board and wrote up a new Project Proposal.

Learning Agreement

Course and Unit Number: Games Art & Design, BA6
Name: Nathaniel Russell

Proposal:
What:
The concept for this project is a fast paced, beat’em up tactical game influenced by the TV series Robot Wars for Android and iOS devices. I will be producing a miniature design document outlining the basic components of the game as well as 3D models of the arena in which the robots fight as well as a range of weapons and chassis with their corresponding upgrades, all fully textured with diffuse, specular and normal maps.

Why:
As it stands there are no robot wars styled games on the market for mobile devices, so there is clearly a gap in the market. I want to build the bridge to cover this gap, providing simple and fun game for all ages that can be picked up and played instantly.

How:
To begin my project I will start by research in to robot wars and the robots featured in it, gathering images for references and draw up my own 2D schematics. I will then build the assets and environment in 3D using Maya, using my schematics as a guide, after which I will UV map and texture.

Assessment Work:
I will be submitting the following for assessment:
  • Learning Agreement
  • 2D schematics
  • Still renders of assets
  • Maya project folder
  • Blog of documentation and research
  • 500 word project evaluation
  • Self evaluation

Schedule of Work: (to include the deadline for submission of assessment):
  • Research (ongoing throughout project)
  • 2D design schematics
  • 3D model assets
  • Texturing of 3D model assets
  • Produce still renders of assets
  • Evaluation and blog completion
