Carrying on with my design document, I've describe the target market, platform, project scope as well as the basic controls.
Target Market:
The target audience for Mechwarriors: Destruction is not limited to a set group, but it will most likely appeal to individuals who enjoy fast action strategy games such as the Real Time Strategy games Command and Conquer and Age of Empires. It can also appeal to those players who are referred to as “sim” players, who enjoy building things on a grand scale.
Due to the graphic imagery, violence, as well as online ability, the game will have to have a minimum age of 16. Which in a way allows the game content to be a lot more realistic in the sense of logic. The game will depict violence and gore of a graphic nature as well as featuring mild bad language.
Platform:
Mechwarrior Destruction will be a medium to high end PC based game. This platform has been chosen to carry on with the tradition of Mechwarrior games, that are only available for PC players. In addition, the choice allows the game to push the level of detail as well as functionality of the game such as click to move controls.
Project Scope:
The features and characteristics of the project will make the game a unique and new experience for players. While there are games like this on the market, none have migrated from an existing series of games based in another genre. The change in game play style will attract new players to the franchise of games and perhaps draw them in to other none real time strategy games within the Battletech game group.
Controls:
Game controls are very simple, but can be customized by the player to increase player efficiently The entire game can be played with the mouse, left click being used to interact and right click to “submit” an order. Hotkeys can be assigned by the player to perform specific actions, allowing a more speedy game play.
