#023 GAD BA5: Briefing.

With BA4 finished, we now move on to our next project. The task is to either carry on with our projects from BA4 or create a new one, and produce assets for use in application with a game engine. We do not need to work in teams, but we can if we want, and if we choose to work on a new game design instead of our design from BA4 we are to produce a mini-design document.

There is a fair amount of freedom with this project, especially due to the fact that we can create a game idea/design from scratch. I never completely warmed to my project for BA4, so I've decided to create a new one design around the popular first person shooter called Mechwarrior. I will be working along side with David Allan to get the idea going, however we are both working independently so that we each get marked separately for our own work.

We then had our brief for contextual studies, which like the studio work is fairly open. We are tasked to write a 2,000 word essay describing the relationship between hardware and software used within game-related computer systems and the creative work produced with them. It essentially is a task where we need to look closely at game platforms and how the nature and sophistication of these said platforms have changed over the years. The main idea is to basically research major developments in the game industry, whether it be hardware of software, and identify how this development has impacted the industry.

My initial thoughts so far are to look into the fairly new cloud game servers such as Steam and Origin.
