#007 GAD BA4: Game Re-Design - Mech Weapons

First of all I started off working on different types of barrels. To begin with I wanted to do a few just to see how the weapons components would fit together.
I created 5 barrels of different calibres and lengths in Maya, using reference images from the FPS game Battlefield 3:

Next I wanted to create a few quick visuals of some larger weaponry, for example a minigun. I cam up with two types which I will expand on later, an 8 barrelled small calibre minigun and a 6 barrelled medium calibre minigun.

As you can see, although one design as 8 barrels and one has 6, the barrel component still fits on to the same holder component. They key focus with the weapons/limbs for the Mechs and Monsters is for them all to be able to fit with each other, style wise as well as ratio.

I then had a go at producing some weapons other than miniguns. I came up with another two design, shown below:

The barrels would fit into these housing components which would adjust to the barrel size. They are more streamlined and narrower than the miniguns, which shows that they are lighter in weight (a possible statistic that effects character speed)

I then moved on to some mock ups of the bullets. Although they are pretty basic and really need to be expanded on (i.e Ap, Pr) it still gives a general idea.


Last but not least, I wanted to do a quick example of a possible melee attachment for the weapons. So I took one of the barrels, created a barrel holding unit and added a curved blade to the bottom
